Dollhouse Was The Best Thing On TV Last Night [Dollhouse Recap]

Joss Whedon keeps his promises – last night\’s Dollhouse was a handsome reward to everyone who\’d been paying attention to the series\’ first five weeks, while still introducing the basic premise to the newbies.

Oh, and this write-up includes spoilers, but don\’t worry… it\’ll be just like if your husband got together with another dude. Nothing queeny, and you won\’t even remember the spoilers afterwards.

Okay then. So last night\’s Dollhouse worked fantastically well on several levels. First of all, it worked on the level of a twisty, turny thriller with all the crazy revelations and mysteries.

Unofficial rumor & rant – David Tennant\’s last campanions….

According to GallifreyOne.com:

Outpost Gallifrey: Doctor Who RSS News Feed: \”The Sun is reporting that in David Tennant\’s final story as the Doctor, he will be accompanied by Billie Piper as Rose, Freema Agyeman as Martha and Catherine Tate as Donna. According to the tabloid, the three companions will face off against John Simm, returning as the Master.\”

Here\’s my say on this… If this is accurate, we may have campanion overload, yet again, the same scale as the 4th season finale… Overall, I have like the RTD era of Doctor Who… But at times it seems like he\’s trying to script this awe inspiring tale over an entire season, and then fails at the last second with a Deus Ex Machina, because he couldn\’t figure a better way to solve the problem… (eg. The 3rd Season finale, where \’everyone thinks of the Doctor\’ at the same moment, and restores him back to his current incarnation…)

Steve Ballmer, out of touch with reality.

I know that I shouldn\’t allow this to annoy the heck out of me, but according to several sources (The Register, All Things Digital, & PaidContent.org) Steve Ballmer has done it again…
According to Mr. Ballmer, since the iPhone uses a \”expensive\” capacitive touch screen, it\’s too expensive. Capacitive touch screens are still relatively new technology, but allow very precise sensing, and support multiple contacts. Older technologies like Resistive touch screens are not precise, and don\’t allow multitouch.
Windows Mobile, for all the plans I have read about Win Mobile 7, sounds like they are trying to play catch up, with the most inexpensive components… With a redesigned launch screen, and some extra glitter to try to make people believe that their products have improved. But I have used BlackBerry\’s, Windows Mobile 5&6, Basic \”stupid phones\”, and the iPhone 1st Gen.

Boomer Watch – Flexing muscles made of carbon nanotubes

I just ran across a article on ArsTechnica regarding artificial muscles made out of carbon nanotubes… Can Boomers now be far behind?
Okay, so we still have to work on the entire Artificial Intelligence bit, especially where they randomly go on a rampage for no apparent reason… But still, artificial muscles with that density was a dream a decade ago.
Take a look at the article at Ars Technica. Then wonder what we can use this technology for. Just remember, Doctor Stingray just wanted to make a better toaster, instead we got Boomers…. (No, it\’s not a BSG reference! I\’ll hand out a guaranteed No-Prize [TM, Marvel] For the first person that identifies the Toaster reference…)

Artificial muscles are likely to be essential components of robotics, prosthetic limbs, and a variety of micro-machinery. Quite a few designs are out there, involving materials like carbon nanotubes and silicon elastomers but, to one degree or another, these usually fail to operate as well as natural human muscles. In today’s issue of Science, University of Texas scientists led by Ray Baughman report on a new type of muscle that dramatically outperforms biological ones in nearly every way.

Internet Explorer 8 to be released today..

Reports are that Internet Explorer 8 will be released at noon (PST) today…
Folks, please consider waiting on this upgrade… Internet Explorer is a decent package, but Microsoft keeps making subtle security blunders with IE. There are plenty of other HTML Compliant browsers out there, including Safari, Google Chrome, Opera, Camino, Firefox, etc…
If you do upgrade to IE 8, please consider trying one of the other browsers as your daily web surfing browser, and IE 8 for Windows updates, etc…
