NPR This American Life episode partially fabricated

The Unofficial Apple Weblog is reporting that NPR\’s \”This American Life\” episode that covered the FoxConn iPad factories was partially fabricated.

This American Life host Ira Glass was understandably upset, saying that \”Daisey lied to me and to This American Life producer Brian Reed during the fact checking we did on the story, before it was broadcast. That doesn\’t excuse the fact that we never should\’ve put this on the air. In the end, this was our mistake.

How to uninstall Tivo Desktop for the Macintosh

Here\’s how to uninstall the Tivo Desktop application….

  • Turn Off the Tivo Desktop application
  1. Open System Preferences
  2. Open Tivo Desktop (It is listed in the \”Other\” category)
  3. Check to see if it is turned Off, if not, click on the Stop button.
  4. Close System Preferences
  • Uninstall the Tivo Desktop Preference Pane / application
  1. Remove the Following Files (e.g. Move the Files to the Trash, or Delete them via the Terminal / Command Line)
    • /Library/PreferencePanes/Tivo Desktop.prefPane
    • /Library/Receipts/TivoDesktop.pkg
    • /Library/Application Support/Tivo
    • /Library/StartupItems/TivoDesktop
    • [Optional] /Library/Preferences/com.tivo.desktop
Once you have removed the Application, it is recommended that you restart your system.

How-to Uninstall Firefox

Of course, the first step is obvious…
Exit Firefox completely.  Close the application, and all firefox windows.
On Mac OS X:

  1. Drag the Firefox application to the Trash.
  2. (optional) Remove the Firefox .plist file, from ~/Library/Preferences/org.mozilla.firefox.plist
  3. (optional) Remove the User data and settings (Bookmarks, extensions, etc) from ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox

On Linux:

  1. Remove the firefox installation directory, which is usually /usr/lib/firefox-<version>

On Windows:

  1. Make sure to close Firefox Completely (Along with any Firefox windows)
  2. For Windows 7 / Vista, open Programs -> Programs & Features, Select Mozilla Firefox <version #>, and click the Uninstall button.
    For Windows Xp (or below), double-click Add or Remove Programs, select Mozilla Firefox <Version #>  in the list of installed programs, and click \”Remove\” to run the uninstaller.
  3. Delete the Firefox Installation directory, by default, \”C:\\program files\\Mozilla Firefox\” or \”C:\\programs files (x86)\\Mozilla Firefox\”
  4. (optional) Remove the Firefox temporary data directory:
    Windows 2000/XP: C:\\Documents and Settings\\\\Local Settings\\Application Data\\Mozilla\\Firefox
    Windows 7/Vista: C:\\Users\\\\AppData\\Local\\Mozilla\\Firefox
  5. (optional) Remove:
    Windows 7/Vista: The C:\\Users\\\\AppData\\Local\\VirtualStore\\Program Files\\Mozilla Firefox folder (if it exists)
  6. (optional) Remove:
    Windows XP and above: Delete all C:\\WINDOWS\\Prefetch\\FIREFOX* files
  7. If you installed the Quality Feedback Agent component (aka Talkback) in Firefox 2 or below, open the %APPDATA%\\Talkback\\MozillaOrg\\ folder and delete any \”Firefox\” folders found (e.g., \”Firefox10\” \”Firefox15\” and \”Firefox2\”).

 

How to uninstall Cisco\’s VPN Client on the Macintosh

The following Terminal Commands, will uninstall the Cisco VPN Client.  This will work with any version of the Cisco VPN Client, both command line and GUI based….
To uninstall the VPN Client for Mac OS X:
Step 1 Open a terminal window.
Step 2 Run the following command:
sudo /usr/local/bin/vpn_uninstall
Step 3 Enter your password
Step 4 You are prompted to remove all profiles and certificates.
If you answer yes, all binaries, startup scripts, certificates, profiles, and any directories that were created during the installation process are removed.
If you answer no, all binaries and startup scripts are removed, but certificates, profiles, and the vpnclient.ini file will remain on your system.
