Danny Choo gives a tour of Shibuya

This weekends Culture Japan (Saturday 4th December on Tokyo MX TV from 22:30) will be a Shibuya Tour with the most sweetsome actress and model Elly Otoguro (twitter). We go to cover Shibuya 109, Sanzenri Chemist (the one that\’s been there since the end of World War II), Mandarake and the biggest electronics department store in Shibuya Lavi.
Was also filming my first attempt at a commercial for Culture Japan too – screencap of it above ^^;
Elly is currently the CM girl for Aeon and also spends a load of time in Taiwan appearing as a host on a TV show called \”Mr.J Pin Dao\” [Mr.J頻道]

Hope you enjoy the behind the scene\’s tour….

A Simple \”AirPrint Hacktivator\”

I typically don\’t make \”hacks\” to my system, but I just tried the Netputing\’s AirPrint Hacktivator and it clearly works…  And works quite simply.
Run the tool, turn on AirPort Printing, and then delete and re-add your printer (so that the changes are seen).
HOW TO Hacktivate:
1. Launch AirPrintHacktivator
2. Click on the togle switch:\"hacktivator.jpg\"
3. Enter the admin password:
4. A window will appear instructing you to remove/add/share the printer you want to use with AirPrint:
Click OK.
5. The Print & Fax System Preference window will open to allow you to perform the remove/add/share task.
That\’s it!  Simple, and it works…

What\’s up with the Sea Level? Why aren\’t we underwater yet?

\"armageddon.jpg\"
What truth is behind the idea that our coastal cities are going to drown?  Yes, there has been a noticeable increase in the average sea level…  But that increase is huge, roughly an increase of 2.77 millimeters per year. So how long would it take to duplicate the history channel Armageddon week image?
Well, let\’s make it easier, let\’s specify a 3-5 meter sea level rise, so we’ll call it 4 meters.
For calculation purposes, we’ll assume sea level rise to be linear, and round-up the Battery Park tide gauge rate to 3.0 mm per year, which puts it closer to the 3.1 mm per year measured by satellite and published at Colorado State University’s Global Sea Level Page.

  • 4 meters = 4000 millimeters
  • 4000 millimeters /3.0 millimeters per year = 1333 years

Or for the History channel image above…

  • History Channel photo submersion = 20 stories
  • Story height = 3.9 meters
  • Sea Level Rise in the photo 20 x 3.9 meters = 78 meters
  • 78 meters = 78,000 millimeters
  • 78,000 millimeters / 3 millimeters per year = 26,000 years

I am feeling just a little safer knowing this.  Of course, this is working under the assumption that the water level rises will be linear…
\"waterlevel.jpg\"
Well, the 2.7 millimeter rate is the averaged graph shown here, the growth is well contained and it seems like a reasonable figure for the near future.  But let\’s speculate a little.
Let\’s say it becomes 10 mm, that would be one centimeter a year.  And roughly 400 or 7800 years.  Even if we increased the figure to 50 mm or 5 centimeters a year, that would be 80 or 1560 years…
Please keep in mind, I am not saying that sea levels are not changing.  I have seen that they do, what I am saying is to be aware of the real rate of changes, and be aware of the time scale that we are discussing.

You need an Battle.net Authenticator!

Folks,
\"battlenet_authenticator.jpg\"
I urge anyone that is using a blizzard game to add an Authenticator to their battle.net account.. Assuming of course, that you have an Smartphone (iPhone, or android device). Or to buy an Authenticator from Blizzard. The Authenticator\’s from Blizzard are key fob style devices that serve the same purpose as the mobile application, they are effectively free except for shipping and handling…
What do the authenticator\’s do?  Normally you need to enter your battle.net username & password, to login to a Battle.net based game.  When you have Battle.net set to use the authenticator\’s, you will be asked for a 3rd code, your authenticator code.
The authenticator code\’s last for roughly 60 seconds, the green bar shows you how long before the code changes…
This gives your account a \”3rd\” password, that randomly changes.  Yes, it can be annoying to sit down and start to play WOW, Starcraft 2, etc, and realize you need your mobile device that\’s across the room.
But this is minor irritation to the danger of someone \”hacking\” your battle.net account and stripping your characters of their gear.
I highly recommend that you consider adding this 3rd factor protection to your battle.net account.  With this enabled it\’s almost impossible for someone to hack your account, unless they can de-activate the authenticator setting on your battle.net account.

Rumor Time, MacBook Pro\’s to offer Light Peak

Well, a new rumors states that Apple will reportedly introduce a completely re-designed MacBook Pro this April that will borrow features from the recently released MacBook Air. The new Pros will reportedly come with an SSD and Light Peak technology, a transfer protocol capable of 10 Gbps both up and down. Light Peak, jointly developed by Intel and Apple, will reportedly be an Apple exclusive at first.
Well, Apple has FireWire 800, but USB 3 offers the same on paper specs (Firewire has a better sustained rate, but on paper USB 3 looks comparable).  So Light Peak would be an excellent option to boost their data transfer rates….  But I personally would expect it to appear after Light Peak items start to appear on the general market.

Your Word for the Day – Hirsutism

Hirsutism is the excessive hairiness on humans in those parts of the body where terminal hair does not normally occur or is minimal – for example, a beard or chest hair. It refers to a male pattern of body hair (androgenic hair) and it is therefore primarily of cosmetic and psychological concern. Hirsutism is a symptom rather than a disease and may be a sign of a more serious medical condition, especially if it develops well after puberty.
