Mac OS X installed on Intel\’s Sandy Bridge

Good news, everybody—you don’t have to wait for Apple to approve Intel’s new Sandy Bridge processors before you can run Mac OS X on the new CPUs. Intel’s Sandy Bridge CPUs and chipsets are barely out of the gate, but that hasn’t stopped some users from installing Mac OS X Snow Leopard on the new Sandy Bridge LGA Socket-1155.

MacMan and tonymacx86 of the tonymac86x blog have not only installed Mac OS X on the new chipset, but they’ve also uploaded instructions so you can hackintosh away.

The process involves using a “patched non-standard Darwin kernel” to boot the system, and the tonymac86x blog warns that this is not a long-term solution. In other words, it’s not a quick or painless hack. However, for early adopters who want to try it out, the blog has opened a special forum section specifically for Sandy Bridge.

Yet again, Time Warner doesn\’t understand…

Yes, my cable bill is rising again, but I should be glad…  At least that\’s Time Warner\’s belief, why?
Well, for example:
New! ABC TV Show Episodes for 99 Cents
Rent your favorite episodes of hit ABC shows like Desperate Housewives, Grey\’s Anatomy, and Lost for just 99 cents! Road Runner Video Store lets you download shows to own or rent – and watch in minutes.

But of course, like many of their products, I can\’t use it.  Why?  It\’s Windows-centric.  I have to download and install a Roadrunner Media Player, before I can even consider using their service…
Why?  For the same reason that I can\’t use the Antivirus software that Time Warner advertises.  Because they simply don\’t care.  Time Warner just bundles Computer Associates (McAfee) antivirus package, so instead they could of decided on bundling the McAfee software (or AVAST, etc).
Time Warner doesn\’t care about actually providing a service to anyone other than their majority users, nor about giving good service.  They complain about iTunes being an monopoly / titan in the Video arena, yet here we go with yet another video store that is ignoring an underserved segment.
Why?  Because they have decided to use some off the shelf Microsoft supplied toolkit that will never properly support the Macintosh.  I thank our Net Overlords when Netflix demanded that Silverlight support the Macintosh when they devised their streaming solution…  (Of course, Microsoft has officially killed Silverlight, and now Netflix has to re-engineering, but that has nothing about supporting the Macintosh…)

Handbrake v0.95 has been released…

HandBrake v0.9.5 has now been released.
There are a ton of changes in this release, and you can get into the details in the change release notes. For the Mac version of the software, the biggest news is that PowerPC is no longer supported. If you\’re still holding on to an older Mac, it\’s time to either consider a hardware upgrade or you\’ll be using HandBrake 0.9.4 for the rest of eternity.
Other Mac changes include VLC detection in both the /Applications and ~/Applications directories, a new Audio Panel supporting more than four audio tracks and support for multiple instances running simultaneously.
The update wasn\’t accessible through the \”Check for Updates\” feature in version 0.9.4, so you\’ll probably want to go to the HandBrake website and just download the installer in order to update.
