Planning For The Future…(Doctor Who Miniatures Game)

Gosh… I so wish that I could be there for these games….
Graeme Dawson, author of The Doctor Who Miniatures Game (DWMG), has announced that he will be putting on a couple of participation games at next year\’s Salute, on April 24.

This will be the game\’s first appearance at a convention.

The two planned scenarios are:

\’A Rig Too Far\’: Euro Sea Gas are in trouble again as the entire crew from one of their \’deep drill\’ rigs have vanished. The rig is towed back to the remote highland sea lock, Devil\’s Bay, where UNIT are investigating, led by the Doctor. In the lightening dawn, however, something is rising from the cold dark waters…

\’Lock Stock and Two Smoking Daleks\’: London, 2007. The Army of Ghosts and the Cult of Skaro are attacking Torchwood Tower. Take to the streets as the Preachers, Torchwood, the cops, some opportunistic criminal wideboys, or one of the two metal alien factions. All the fun of the fair with the Doctor, Rose, Mickey, Yvonne and the rest.

He added: \’We are also hoping to have the upcoming \’Battle for Canary Wharf\’ intro to the DWMG PDF available in booklet form, as well as an extremely top secret item for sale (it\’s very very exciting!).\’

Salute 2010 is on Saturday, April 24, at London\’s ExCel Centre and further details about the DWMG sceneraios will be posted on the game\’s Facebook Page and on its Yahoo mailing list.

2414U & 1132U with DirectX = pain?

Check out the warning below that Smarthome includes in their literature for the 2414U Insteon controller:

Using PowerLinc USB & PowerLinc Controller with DirectX Input Devices
It is advised that you unplug your PowerLinc when playing games that use Microsoft\’s DirectX system while using USB input devices like joysticks.

I have run into this problem in the past…  It doesn\’t cause harm to your automation controller (2414U or 1132U), but if you have either plugged in and you start a game that uses a DirectX  input device, it\’s possible that the application/game will crash…  Or become stuck at a black screen.
Simply unplugged the controller or the cable to the controller will allow the application/game to run successfully.
Evidently there is a conflict  between DirectX and the controller\’s driver…

How make a static local ip for a computer, using an Airport Extreme

Make Life easy for yourself.
Leave everything the way it is right now. Make sure your client computer is set to use DHCP. Click on Advanced –> Ethernet and write down the Mac Address for the client/server computer…

  1. Open Airport Utility…..
  2. Open your Airport Extreme
  3. Click on Internet
  4. Click on DHCP
  5. Click on + under DHCP Reservations
  6. Add a description (eg Server), and click on Reserve Address By Mac Address
  7. Click on Continue
  8. Add the Mac Address, and type in the IP Address you want to assign it.

This will cause the computer to always get the same IP Address through DHCP. You are literally reserving the IP for that computers use.
