How-to Uninstall Firefox

Of course, the first step is obvious…
Exit Firefox completely.  Close the application, and all firefox windows.
On Mac OS X:

  1. Drag the Firefox application to the Trash.
  2. (optional) Remove the Firefox .plist file, from ~/Library/Preferences/org.mozilla.firefox.plist
  3. (optional) Remove the User data and settings (Bookmarks, extensions, etc) from ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox

On Linux:

  1. Remove the firefox installation directory, which is usually /usr/lib/firefox-<version>

On Windows:

  1. Make sure to close Firefox Completely (Along with any Firefox windows)
  2. For Windows 7 / Vista, open Programs -> Programs & Features, Select Mozilla Firefox <version #>, and click the Uninstall button.
For Windows Xp (or below), double-click Add or Remove Programs, select Mozilla Firefox <Version #>  in the list of installed programs, and click \”Remove\” to run the uninstaller.
  3. Delete the Firefox Installation directory, by default, \”C:\\program files\\Mozilla Firefox\” or \”C:\\programs files (x86)\\Mozilla Firefox\”
  4. (optional) Remove the Firefox temporary data directory:
    Windows 2000/XP: C:\\Documents and Settings\\\\Local Settings\\Application Data\\Mozilla\\Firefox
    Windows 7/Vista: C:\\Users\\\\AppData\\Local\\Mozilla\\Firefox
  5. (optional) Remove:
Windows 7/Vista: The C:\\Users\\\\AppData\\Local\\VirtualStore\\Program Files\\Mozilla Firefox folder (if it exists)
  6. (optional) Remove:
Windows XP and above: Delete all C:\\WINDOWS\\Prefetch\\FIREFOX* files
  7. If you installed the Quality Feedback Agent component (aka Talkback) in Firefox 2 or below, open the %APPDATA%\\Talkback\\MozillaOrg\\ folder and delete any \”Firefox\” folders found (e.g., \”Firefox10\” \”Firefox15\” and \”Firefox2\”).
