The utility Winclone has been invaluable to me, it easily backups and restores Windows Boot Camp partitions…. Â But the developer has had some issues updating it to work with Windows 7….
A while back, he discontinued updating Winclone, and was convinced by the users to not discontinue the application… Â But, it appears that the author may have finally just decided enough is enough… Â The twocanoes.com domain can\’t be found (October 14th, 2010), and it appears that the Winclone pages were stamped with \”discontinued\” for a while before the domain disappeared…
Well, we will miss Winclone… Â I still will use it… Â It still works fantastically with Win XP, and until it breaks, you can\’t beat the ease of use of Winclone…
If a developer decides to discontinue work on a free utility, one would hope they would be kind enough to open source it so the community could keep up the progress. What a GREAT utility.
Overall, I agree. But sometimes there is issues that prevent that, for example, using a commercial library that they do not have the license to distribute… What I really dislike though, is that the Author has claimed that there are tools that work better/replace Winclone, but never supplied this mythical list….
