How can you find out what display is connected to your macintosh? Â Well, on the desktop\’s you can examine the monitor, probably… Â But what about your laptop?
Open a terminal window, and type this in:
ioreg -lw0 | grep IODisplayEDID | sed \"/[^<]*</s///\" | xxd -p -r | strings -6
For example:
[nerv:~] benjamin% ioreg -lw0 | grep IODisplayEDID | sed \”/[^<]*</s///\” | xxd -p -r | strings -6
SMBXAJ0806727
VO22L HDTV10A

[nerv:~] abcdefg% ioreg -lw0 | grep IODisplayEDID | sed \"/[^<]*</s///\" | xxd -p -r | strings -6
SMBXAJ0806727
VO22L HDTV10A

@UÂ
What does this mean?
- I don\’t have any information on what the \”SMBXAJ0806727\” is, I thought it was the serial number, but it doesn\’t match the display\’s serial number…
- The VO22L, in my case, is the model of the monitor, and I assume the HDTV10A is the class of display.
- The rest of the output appear to be gibberish…
[nerv:~] benjamin% ioreg -lw0 | grep IODisplayEDID | sed \”/[^<]*</s///\” | xxd -p -r | strings -6
SMBXAJ0806727
VO22L HDTV10A

hi, just found your page googling
ioreg -lw0 | grep IODisplayEDID | sed “/[^<]*
instructions that i found on ars technica, but it doesnt seems to work on my iMac 27". It's running 10.6.2 and it doesn't work, so i tryed yours but it doesn't work either, any idea ?
If you do please mail me something, thanks.
In the command line that you have in your comment, is a fragment of the command line…
ioreg -lw0 | grep IODisplayEDID | sed “/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6
Is the complete command line. What error are you getting?
My command was not complete indeed, I ran the complete command but it seems Apple blocked it on the 27″ as the only answer is Color LCD. thanks for answering me that fast though 🙂
